LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State men's golf team came within one-stroke of tying team champion Santa Clara at the 15th annual Del Walker Intercollegiate at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach.

LBSU carded their best round of the tournament, shooting a 349 in Tuesday's final round to finish with a total score of 1077 (+27). The Broncos shot a 350 to finish at 26-over (1076). This was the second year in a row the 49ers finished in second-place at the Del Walker Intercollegiate.

Cal State Fullerton and Weber State tied for third at 41-over, followed by Cal State Northridge (+42) in fifth and Wichita State (+44) in sixth. Louisiana-Monroe placed seventh (+47), with Washington State (+57) in eighth, Northern Colorado (+79) and UC Riverside (+93) rounding out ninth and 10th respectively.

Four 49ers placed in the top-10 as Benjamin Lein and Kevin Roy tied for sixth at 3-over and Philip Chian and Raymond Ho tied for ninth, finishing two-strokes behind at 5-over.

Lein fired a team-best 68 as he recorded five birdies, four of them coming consecutively on the back-nine starting at the No. 3 hole and five bogeys. Lein also recorded an eagle on the par-4, 300-yard 14th hole.

Roy carded a final round 70 to finish the day even, while Chian and Ho fired a 69 to close out the tournament with a total score of 215.

Kevin Lim tied for 34th, shooting a 73 for a 11-over 221.

Gregor Main of UCLA claimed individual medalist by six-strokes over Rick Lamb (-1) of Santa Clara.

"It was an honor to host the 15th annual Del Walker at Virginia," 49er head coach Ryan Ressa said. "As important as Del has been to the history of our program, it's an honor to continue the tradition of the event. I am extremely proud of our guys for their effort this week. We competed hard down to the very end. The guys dug deep and played the back nine extremely well. That was the best golf I have seen out of this group all year. I can't say enough about the strides these guys have made this season. We still have a long way to go, but the guys keep working."

"Hats off to Santa Clara and Rob Miller," Ressa said. "Those guys do a fantastic job every year. Today they just best us straight up and they deserve credit for coming into Virginia and playing great. Our guys are looking forward to next week's event to keep the momentum going."

The 49ers return to action Mar. 14-15, traveling south for the San Diego Intercollegiate Classic hosted by San Diego.
