FIRST TEE
The Long Beach State women's golf team begins the spring season hosting the Gold Rush tournament in Yorba Linda, Calif. The two-day 54-hole event will take place at the par-72, 6,236-yard Yorba Linda Country Club. First and second round action is scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 14 and concluding with the final 18 holes on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Tweleve teams from five different conferences will be participating in this year's Gold Rush (BYU, Cal Poly, Colorado State, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, Gonzaga, New Mexico State, Portland State, UC Riverside, San Diego State, San Francisco).
CERULLE ON THE GOLD RUSH
"The Gold Rush is finally going to give us the chance to host a tournament for our team," said 49er head coach Joey Cerulle. "Yorba Linda Country Club will be challenging for the players as it has been host to U.S. Women's Open Qualifying. I'm expecting the course to be in perfect shape, and am hoping that the rains stay away for as much as possible. YLCC has been an outstanding host so far and they are extremely excited to have 12 quality women's teams competing in the inaugural Gold Rush."
LAST YEAR'S GOLD RUSH CANCELED
The inaugural Gold Rush tournament was scheduled to take place around the same time, but was cancelled due to poor course conditions that were brought on by heavy rains in Southern California.
49ERS CONCLUDE FALL SEASON
The 49ers concluded the fall season having played in four tournaments. LBSU played in three time zones, playing in Fort Collins, Colorado (Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic); East Lansing, Mich. (Mary Fossum Invitational); and in Owasso, Okla. (Dale McNamara Invitational). The 49ers recorded their strongest performance in November, finishing in third place at the 17-team Lamkin Grip Invitational in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
MCATEE RECORDS FIRST TOP-10 FINISH
Senior Lindsey McAtee (Poway, Calif.) recorded her first career top-10 finish, tying for fifth-place at the Lamkin Grip Invitational at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande. McAtee finished the 36-hole tournament at 6-over-par 152, recording rounds of 79 and 73. McAtee has also recorded four top-20 finishes as a 49er.
CHAN HAS IMPRESSIVE START TO SEASON
Freshman Rochelle Chan (Torrance, Calif.) played in all four tournaments for the 49ers, recording her first career top-10 finish at the Lamkin Grip Invitational. Chan tied for 10th place with a 7-over 153 (78-75).
CERULLE ON THE SPRING SEASON
"The spring season keeps us in California through the semester. Our highlighted events are our "Gold Rush", the Bruin Wave, and the Pacific Intercollegiate. We feel like we have the opportunity for strong finishes in each of our events, and should be bringing home some championships with quality play. The women have worked very hard over the winter break, and with the help of our strength and fitness program, combined with help from our nutritionist, I feel like we are ready both physically and mentally for the long journey ahead. Our goal is a victory at the Big West Tournament and a berth to the NCAA Regional Championship."
49ERS SIGNS TWO TO NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT
