
Roy, Ho finish in top 20 at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's golf team finished with a strong performance in the last day of the 20-team Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate to place 11th. After the second round was completed early Sunday morning, LBSU was in 13th place after shooting a 313 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert. The 49ers improved by 13 shots to card a 297 in the final round to move up in the standings to 11th place.
Texas A&M won the team championship (+15) by five-strokes over second-place UNLV (+20) and 11 shots over third-place SMU (+26).
LBSU was paced by Kevin Roy and Raymond Ho as both players tied for 16th, recording a 54-hole total of 224 to finish at 8-over-par. Roy shot a second-round 79 to tie for 40th, but came back in the final round with a 1-under 71. Ho carded a 78 to place 24th after two rounds and fired a final round 74 to move up in the standings.
Kevin Lim tied for 49th at 15-over after shooting rounds of 76 and 78 for a 231, while Philip Chian tied for 81st at 23-over with rounds of 80 and 78 (239).
Benjamin Lein placed 87th (+25) finishing with a 241 (80-74).
Scott Travers of Santa Clara claimed individual medalist after tying with Kevin Penner of UNLV with a score of 213. The tiebreaker was awarded to the individual who shot the lowest final round. Travers carded a 69, while Penner shot a 74.
The 49ers return to action for their third tournament of the spring season, hosting the 15th annual Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach. The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Monday, Mar. 7.
