Long Beach, Calif. - Two home runs from Arizona and a six-run fifth inning gave the Wildcats more than enough offense to stop Long Beach State in the second game of the series Saturday in a 9-1 loss for the Dirtbags.

Matt Duffy had a single and an RBI while Johnny Bekakis picked up a hit in his first collegiate at-bat to highlight the day for the Dirtbags.

Arizona struck first in the top of the third inning. Alex Mejia began the inning with a single, and two bunt singles then loaded the bases for the Wildcats. A hit batter brought in a run, and a second run came home to score on a Jett Bandy sacrifice fly. The Dirtbags were able to limit any further damage, and ended the third down 2-0.

The Wildcats broke the game open in the fifth inning. Starter Matt Johnson was able to retire the first batter of the inning, but Bandy reached on an error to start an Arizona rally. Robert Refsnyder doubled to bring home the first run of the inning, and Josh Garcia followed with a two-run home run to clear the bases.

Ryan Strufing came on in relief for the Dirtbags, but ran into trouble by loading the bases while picking up just one additional out. A single by Josh Rickard scored a pair of runs, and a third run came home on an outfield error to lead to a six-run inning for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats added an additional run in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Refsnyder, while Long Beach State got on the board in the eighth after Kirk Singer scored on an RBI groundout by Duffy.

The Dirtbags and the Wildcats return for the rubber game of the series on Sunday, set to begin at 1 p.m. at Blair Field.
