49ers complete second annual Battle at the Beach

NEWPORT COAST, Calif. - The second annual Battle at the Beach came to a close Tuesday afternoon at The Resort at Pelican Hill as the Long Beach State men's golf team recorded their best round of the tournament with a 362 to finish in 11th place.
LBSU completed the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 59-over-par 1118 at the Pelican Hill Ocean North Course. The 49ers shot a 366 in Sunday's opening round
Second-ranked UCLA claimed the team title for the second straight year as the Bruins finished with a 7-over, winning by three-strokes over No. 25-ranked San Diego (+10) and nine-strokes over defending national champion No. 14 Augusta State and No. 27 Washington.
Benjamin Lein was the top player for the 49ers, shooting a tournament best 71 to move up in the standings from 54th to tie for 43rd. Lein finished the tournament at 10-over 220.
Kevin Roy and Raymond Ho recorded their best rounds of the tournament with a 71 and 70 respectively. Roy moved up from 65th to tie for 52nd, while Ho jumped from 70th to tie for 58th. Roy completed the tournament at 13-over 223 and Ho was one-shot back.
Kevin Lim carded a final round score 75 to tie for 63rd, finishing at 16-over, while Philip Chian shot a 75 to tie for 69th (+18) and Austin Love placed 72nd (+21).
Kenneth McCready of San Diego held onto the lead by two-shots over Patrick Cantlay of UCLA to claim the individual medalist.
The 49ers return to action on Monday, Feb. 28, for the Cowboy Classic in Palm Desert.
