49ers complete day two at Gifford Collegiate Championship

SAN MARTIN, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's golf team recorded a 377 in Tuesday's second round of the Gifford Collegiate Championship at the CordeValle Resort Golf Club in San Martin to finish in eighth place.
LBSU has a two-day total of 36-over par 746, trailing No. 5 Stanford in seventh by five strokes. No. 30 USC leads the field of 11 teams by 12 shots over tournament host and 10th-ranked UCLA in second.
Freshman JJ Holen was the top player for the 49ers for the second straight day, shooting a second round 75 to tie for 22nd. Holen recorded 14 pars and four bogeys for the day to tally a 36-hole total of 4-over 146.
Junior Philip Chian is one shot back after recording a 75 to tie for 25th.
Senior Kevin Roy and freshman Xander Schauffele are tied for 40th. Roy carded a 75, while Schauffele improved by four strokes from Monday's opening round for a 72.
Senior Kevin Lim shot an 80 for a 12-over 154, tying for 57th, while freshman Kevin Techakanokboon recorded an 83 to finish in 70th.
Patrick Cantlay of UCLA and Steve Lim of USC sits on top of the leaderboard with a one-stroke lead.
Final round play concludes on Wednesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. LBSU is paired with Stanford and Coastal Carolina.
