FIRST TEE
The Long Beach State women's golf team travels to Las Cruces, N.M. for their third tournament of the fall season as they'll take part in the Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico State. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, Oct. 10 at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces. Live action will not be available on golfstat.com.
PRICE'S "GIVE `EM FIVE" INTERCOLLEGIATE FIELD
LBSU will be among a 14-team field as seniors Monica Villarreal and Noelle Zavaleta, junior Simone Hoey and sophomore Rochelle Chan and freshman Monica Umpant will represent the 49ers. The other teams participating are Utah Valley State, Hawai'i, Central Arkansas, Seattle, UTEP, UC Irvine, Cincinnati, Boise State, North Texas, Idaho, Colorado State, SMU and Baylor. Sophomore Ashley Greer and freshman Bow-Kay Salotti will be making their collegiate debut, playing as individuals for the 49ers.
49ERS, CHAN WINS ROSE CITY COLLEGIATE
LBSU held onto a 10-stroke lead over Fresno State to capture the Rose City Collegiate at Langdon Farms Golf Course in Aurora, Ore. This was the first tournament win for the 49ers since winning the inaugural Folino Invitational last year in Irvine. LBSU finished the two-day tournament at 36-over 900 (298-299-303). Sophomore Rochelle Chan recorded her first career tournament win as she captured individual medalist with a 4-over 220. Chan fired a career and tournament low 66 in the opening round as she held onto a three-shot lead over teammate Monica Villarreal(+7).
CHAN NAMED LBSU STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Rochelle Chan was named Long Beach State Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Rose City Collegiate in Aurora, Ore., where she won individual medalist and helped the 49ers capture their first tournament title this season.
49ERS FINISH 13TH AT PTARMIGAN RAM FALL CLASSIC
LBSU kicked off the 2011-12 season at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic (Sept. 12-13) in Fort Collins, Colo., as the 49ers finished in 13th place. The 49ers recorded rounds of 310, 303 and 306 for a total of 55-over 919. Junior Simone Hoey led the way for LBSU, tying for 23rd at 7-over 223, followed by Noelle Zavaleta tied for 29th (+9), Rochelle Chan tied for 62nd (+18), Monica Umpant in 83rd (+26) and Monica Villarrealtied for 84th (+27).
UMPANT MAKES DEBUT FOR 49ERS
Freshman Monica Umpant made her collegiate debut in the 49ers' season opener at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic finishing in 83rd (+26) and helping the 49ers win their first tournament of the season at the Rose City Collegiate. Umpant tied for 38th with a 23-over 239.
LBSU IN THE RANKINGS
In the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, the 49ers comes in at No. 61, while in Golfstat, the 49ers are ranked 90th.
BIG WEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS BACK NORTH
The Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship returns to the San Luis Obispo Country Club, Apr. 22-24, after spending the last two years at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. This year's 54-hole conference championship will return to a three-day format with 18 holes being played each day as seven teams battle for the conference championship and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
The 49ers will close out the fall season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Oct. 24-26, hosted by UNLV. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will take place at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
