Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead early in the first quarter before UC Santa Barbara came storming back for a 10-6 victory for the Gauchos at the Campus Pool.

Nathan McConnell and Milos Vrzic scored two early goals, putting the 49ers up 2-0 over UC Santa Barbara.

The Gauchos then scored six straight goals to lead 6-2 with 7:15 remaining in the third quarter.

Dan Matulis' goal with 5:40 remaining in the 4th quarter brought LBSU within striking distance at 8-4, before each team added two more scores.

Brian Shoemaker, Eric Van de Mortel, Jesse Gillespie, and Chase Racich scored two goals each to lead UC Santa Barbara.

Long Beach State had six players score one goal each in the contest.

Gaucho keeper Myles Christian stopped 11 shots by the 49ers in the contest.

The 49ers (13-6, 0-3) travel to Pepperdine on Saturday at 12 p.m. as they continue Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.
