LA QUINTA, Calif. - Long Beach State shot a 292 in Monday's second round of The Prestige at PGA WEST to improve by nine strokes for a 36-hole score of 17-over par 593. The 49ers remain in 16th place, just three shots behind Pepperdine in 15th and six strokes behind tournament co-host UC Davis and San Diego as the Aggies and Toreros are tied for 13th.
Second-ranked Oregon continues to lead the field of 16 teams as the Ducks holds a five shot lead over second-place Washington and six shots over 28th-ranked San Diego State in third. Tournament co-host and No. 1 Stanford sits in fourth at 14-under.
Senior Kevin Roy was the top player for LBSU, shooting a second round 72 to tie for 28th. Roy carded six birdies for the round with one bogey and two double-bogeys.
Junior Philip Chian improved by four strokes, firing a two-under 70 to move up in the standings from 49th to tie for 35th. Chian recorded six birdies for the day, including a bogey-free back nine at three-under.
Senior Kevin Lim also improved in the second round by six shots with a 73 to move up in the standings by five spots to tie for 71st.
Freshman Xander Schauffele shot a 77 to tie for 76th, while classmate J.J. Holen also recorded a 77 to tie for 79th.
Spencer Fletcher of Arizona State and Eugene Wong of Oregon sits on top of the leaderboard at 10-under.
Final round play concludes on Tuesday.
