Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State will host its fifth annual Salute to the Services Day on Saturday when the men's basketball team plays host to UC Irvine at the Walter Pyramid. Tip-off is 4:05 p.m. for the first hardwood edition of this year's Black & Blue Rivalry Series presented by Duke's Huntington Beach.
Admission to the game is free for servicemen and servicewomen with a valid form of identification, plus four additional free tickets for guests. Service veterans and members of service organizations also qualify for this free offer. The offer is good day-of-game only and can be redeemed at the Walter Pyramid Box Office beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday when the gates open.
As part of tradition, the 49ers will be partnering with Soldiers' Angels, a military-based charity that helps to send care packages to our active-duty United States soldiers overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq. Fans are asked to bring new, unopened items to the Pyramid on game day to be included in the care packages.
Items such as pre-packaged snacks, socks, boxer briefs, body wash and other toiletries are in heavy demand. Soldiers' Angels will also be operating a card signing station so that 49er fans may write messages to our servicemen and servicewomen.
