Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State baseball head coach Troy Buckley has finished the creation of his coaching team, adding Scott Lemone and Justin Ramsey to the staff. Lemone will serve as the team's volunteer assistant coach, while Ramsey will work as the team's director of operations.
Lemone comes to the Dirtbags for a second stint with the staff, after working as an administrative assistant during the 2008 season.
"Scott returns to us after gaining valuable on-field and recruiting experience the past two years," said Buckley. "Couple that with his familiarity with the Long Beach State program, and it is a major positive in the development of our players and program."
Since departing Long Beach State after the 2008 season, Lemone spent two seasons as the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach at Cal Poly-Pomona. In his second season with the Broncos, Lemone helped to lower the team ERA over a full point, finishing the season with a staff ERA of 4.96.
Lemone assisted with off-field recruiting for the 2008 Long Beach State Dirtbags squad, a team that won the Big West with a 38-21 overall record and earned a No. 1 seed for the NCAA Regionals, hosting the Long Beach Regional in that year.
Before joining Long Beach State in 2008, Lemone spent one season with current LBSU assistant coach Jesse Zepeda at Cal Poly, working as the Mustangs' director of baseball operations.
Rounding out the staff is Justin Ramsey, joining the Dirtbags as the director of baseball operations. Ramsey is responsible for the day-to-day logistics of running the team, as well as organizing team travel and coordinating all game day activity.
"Justin has a successful track record as a collegiate player and has gained valuable tutelage at a highly respected junior college program," noted Buckley. "His extensive baseball background is a great fit for our administrative position of director of baseball operations"
Ramsey comes to Long Beach State from Sacramento City College, where he spent five years as an assistant coach. He was instrumental in the development of a number of Division I pitchers while at Sac City, including a pair of 2009 Dirtbags in Troy Watson and Cris Trout.
Also since 2009, Ramsey has served as the pitching coach with the La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods summer collegiate league. Ramsey worked with two 2010 draftees from his first team in La Crosse, including Matt Bywater of Pepperdine who was drafted in the 7th round by the Baltimore Orioles.
