Irvine, Calif. - The eighth-ranked Long Beach State men's water polo team lost a, 12-7, decision to No. 6 UC Irvine in a non-conference game Friday, at Anteater Pool.
Alexsandr Petrovic and Nick Rascon led The Beach in scoring with two goals apiece, while Patrick van der Linde, Taylor Clute and Barry Snyder chipped in with one goal each. Goalie Matt Kubeck finished with five saves on the night.
After trailing UCI, 12-4, heading into the fourth period, Long Beach State (5-3) cut into the lead with a 3-0 final frame, but the deficit proved too much to come back from.
The Anteaters (6-2) benefited from Griffin Lerman's career-high six goal performance, and a season-high 14 save effort in goal from Matt Johnson.
Long Beach State will play next at noon, Saturday in the Alumni Game at 49er Pool. Admission is free.
