LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State women's soccer team has started its preparation for the 2010 season as the 49ers began their training camp last Wednesday.
The Beach has been doing two-a-day sessions, as they get ready for an exhibition game against San Diego State on Saturday, Aug. 14.
"The first week of camp went really well," head coach Mauricio Ingrassia said. "The kids put in a lot of work during the summer, which puts us in a good position right now."
Long Beach State returns 18 letterwinners from last year's squad. Leading the way is senior midfielder Lindsay Bullock, who is a two-time first-team All-Big West selection. Junior Shawna Gordon will also rejoin forces with Bullock in the midfield. Gordon is a two-time all-conference pick and led the 49ers in goals, assists and points last season.
LBSU takes on SDSU in Saturday's exhibition game, which begins at 5 p.m. at George Allen Field. The 49ers then entertain BYU in their official season opener on Friday, Aug. 20.
