OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Long Beach State senior Lindsay Bullock scored the game-winning goal in the U-23 Eagles Soccer Club's 2-1 victory over the Arizona Rush at the United States National Soccer Championships Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles became only the second women's team to capture three age-specific national titles in the 31-year history of U.S. women's youth and adult soccer.
With the score tied at 1-1 and 15 minutes left in regulation, Emily Cressy (Kansas) led Bullock across the top of the box. Bullock then struck the ball hard with her left foot as it traveled at a 45-degree angle, just beyond the keeper's outstretched hands and into the side panel of the net to secure the win.
Also representing Long Beach State on the Eagles' roster was Nicole Sweetman, who was a member of the past two championship teams in 2004 (14-under) and 2007 (17-under). Shawna Gordon and Alex Balcer, meanwhile, played for the Arizona Rush.
Kristyn Benavidez, an incoming freshman, also scored the game-winning goal for the Eclipse in the U-18 national championship game.
