LOS ANGELES - Long Beach State junior Monica Villarreal captured the prestigious 89th annual L.A. City Women's Championship on Sunday at the Rancho Park Golf Club in Los Angeles.

Villarreal carded a 72 in the opening round on Saturday to share the lead. She came back in Sunday's final round to improve by three strokes as she fired a tournament low of 69 for a total score of 141.
This past season, Villarreal played in all five spring tournaments for LBSU. She recorded one top-10 finish as she led the 49ers at the Anteater Invitational in March as she tied for ninth.
Villarreal helped the 49ers place second at this year's Big West Conference Tournament, finishing ahead of No. 43-ranked UC Irvine. Villarreal was named to the All-Big West tournament team as she was named honorable mention.
