Long Beach, Calif. - Anaheim Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver was a late addition Sunday to the All-Star game, giving Long Beach State three former players who received the honor, joining Evan Longoria and Troy Tulowitzki.
Weaver will represent the hometown Angels in the 2011 All-Star Game which will be played Tuesday, July 13 in Anaheim. Despite great numbers, Weaver was overlooked in part because he was ineligible to play in the game, due to his pitching on Sunday.
However, with an 8-5 overall record, a 3.20 ERA and a Major League-best 137 strikeouts, Weaver was given a deserved nod and will be on hand to represent the Angels, joining Torii Hunter.
Weaver's selection is his first, coming in his fitfh major league season. He is the fifth former Dirtbag be named an All-Star.
Tulowitzki, like Weaver, was named to the All-Star roster but will be unable to play on Tuesday. Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria will start for the American League.
