Bullock, Balcer earn Academic All-District honors

LONG BEACH - Long Beach State women's soccer players Lindsay Bullock and Alex Balcer were named to the 2010-11 CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District 8 Third Team the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Tuesday afternoon.
Bullock, a senior midfielder from Manhattan Beach, has compiled seven goals and two assists in 19 games this year. She has also recorded a team-high 51 shot attempts and is second on the squad with 16 points. The two-time first-team All-Big West selection ranks among the 49er career leaders in shots (3rd, 189), game-winning goals (3rd, 7), points (5th, 56) and goals (5th, 26). Bullock is a math education major and this is her second career Academic All-District honor as she garnered second-team recognition in 2008.
Balcer is a sophomore defender who has started all 19 games this year. She has anchored a 49er backline that has posted five shutouts and a 1.08 goals against average. The Tucson, Ariz., native also notched her first career assist in a 5-2 win at Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 17. She has 11 shots on the season, including two on target. Balcer is majoring in biology-physiology.
To be eligible for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.30 grade-point average, be a significant contributor to the team and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.
Long Beach State (12-5-2) plays host to Cal State Northridge in a Big West Tournament semifinal game on Thursday, Nov. 4. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at George Allen Field.
