Long Beach, Calif. - After winning his first Gold Glove in 2010, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki picked up another postseason award after being named a NL Silver Slugger. The award is given to one player at each position in both leagues, honoring the top hitter.
Tulowitzki earned the award after leading all NL shortstops in a number of categories, including RBI (95), batting (.315), on-base percentage (.381), and home runs (27).
The former Dirtbag (2003-05) became the first shortstop to lead the NL in both slugging percentage and fielding percentage since Jay Bell in 1993, and his outstanding September where he hit 15 home runs and drove in 40 RBI was the most in both categories for the month since Babe Ruth in 1927.
Tulowitzki is the second former Dirtbag to win both awards in one season, as Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria won both awards last year in 2009. Longoria earned his second Gold Glove in 2010, but did not win both in 2010.
