Long Beach, Calif. - Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki won his first career Gold Glove award as announced by Major League Baseball on Wednesday. Tulowitzki is the second former Dirtbag to win the award this season, as Tampa Bay Rays third baseman won a Gold Glove in the American League yesterday.
Tulowitzki, known for his fine defense at shortstop, was chosen over Jimmy Rollins, ending a three-year run at the position for the Philadelphia Phillies shortstop. Tulowitzki led all NL shortstops with a .984 fielding percentage as well as double plays with 103 in 2010.
In a release from the Rockies Tulowitzki said, "All you guys realize how much pride I take in my defense and if there's one thing in my whole career other than the World Series that I want to win, it's a Gold Glove."
Tulowitzki becomes the second former Dirtbag to win a Gold Glove. Evan Longoria has now won the honor over the last two seasons.
