LONG BEACH - Long Beach State head women's basketball coach Jody Wynn has announced the 49ers' schedule for the 2010-11 season.
"We are thrilled to have our schedule complete with a very competitive group of non-conference opponents," Wynn said. "Our philosophy is to build our schedule with strong teams that will challenge and prepare us for March. Our young team will be shown right away the level we must compete at in order to win the Big West Tournament."
LBSU's preseason schedule features four Pac-10 schools and one 2010 NCAA Tournament team. The 49ers will spend a majority of the first month on the road as they open at Oregon State on Nov. 13 before heading to Loyola Marymount two days later.
Long Beach State's home opener is set for Friday, Nov. 19, when it hosts Oregon at the Walter Pyramid in a 7 p.m. non-conference showdown.
The Beach then hits the road again for two weeks as it heads to the Galen Center to take on USC (Nov. 21) before making its way to Honolulu, Hawaii, for the eight-team Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown (Nov. 26-28). The 49ers open the tournament against Illinois and could also face North Carolina, Washington State, North Carolina Central, Gonzaga, Mississippi and host Hawaii.
The following week, LBSU travels to Houston, Texas, for the Gene Hackerman Invitational, where it is set to take on Prairie View A&M in the tournament opener on Dec. 3.
The Beach returns home to entertain San Diego on Dec. 8 before heading north for a 2 p.m. showdown at California on Dec. 11.
LBSU will then host its own tournament featuring 2010 NCAA Tournament participant North Carolina State and Florida A&M (Dec. 19-21) in its final tune-up before kicking off Big West Conference play against UC Santa Barbara at the Walter Pyramid on Dec. 30.
