Volleyball faces UCLA in first round of NCAA Tournament

Long Beach State women's volleyball will face the UCLA Bruins in Pauley Pavilion to start the NCAA Tournament this Friday, December 4, 2009 at 8 p.m.
The postseason will be the second time that the team's have met, as Long Beach State (22-8) defeated No. 9 UCLA (23-8) back on September 19 in three sets. The team's last met at UCLA in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.
The 49ers are making their 23rd consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament after winning their second straight Big West championship to earn the league's automatic bid for the tournament. Long Beach State holds a 48-20 overall NCAA Tournament record, and has won three national championships under head coach Brian Gimmillaro.
Long Beach State's game with the UCLA Bruins will be the second match at the site on December 4, with Georgia Tech (21-9) playing Baylor (22-9) in the first match, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The winners of the first round games will then meet at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 to decide who will advance to the Regional Round of the tournament to be held on December 11-12 in Gainsville, Fla. at the University of Florida.
The 2009 Final Four will be held in Tampa Bay, Florida, with the National Championship game coming at 8 p.m. on December 18.
