Shaun Meinecke named assistant track and field coach

LONG BEACH - Shaun Meinecke has been named an assistant coach for the Long Beach State track and field team, 49er head coach Andy Sythe has announced. Meinecke will work with the sprinters, hurdlers, and relays at The Beach.
Meinecke comes to LBSU from Miami University (Ohio), where he spent three years as an assistant track and field coach, handling the sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps, and multi-events. During his tenure at Miami, Meinecke produced six conference champions, seven national qualifying marks, five national appearances, and two All-American performances. In addition, the RedHawks broke seven school records, one Mid-American Conference record, and one Israeli national record under his guidance.
Prior to his stint at Miami, Meinecke spent two years as the head women's cross country/track and field coach at Georgia Southern University, where he was tabbed Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year twice. While at the helm, Meinecke's track and field athletes produced 15 conference champions, 13 regional qualifying performances, two Southern Conference records, two Junior National qualifiers, and one NCAA qualifying mark. He also helped the Eagles to back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships.
Before his head coaching tenure, Meinecke was an assistant at Georgia Southern University (2001-03) and assisted with the jumps, sprints, and heptathlon.
As a student-athlete, Meinecke was an NCAA Division III All-American decathlete at Luther College. He was also a three-time national qualifier and won a national championship as a member of the distance medley relay team.
Meinecke earned his bachelor's degree in business management from Luther College in 2001 and went on to earn his master's degree in sport management from Georgia Southern in 2003.
