LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State women's soccer team (4-6-0, 0-1-0 BWC) was unable to get on the board in its Big West Conference opener as it dropped a 1-0 decision to Pacific on Thursday afternoon at George Allen Field.
The Tigers (7-3-2, 1-0-0 BWC), who picked up their first win over The Beach since 2003, snapped the 49ers' six-game unbeaten streak in the series.
LBSU was unable to get much going on the offensive end, suffering its second consecutive shutout.
Long Beach State was able to get off eight shots with six on goal. Sophomores Shawna Gordon and Nicole Hubbard led the way with two shots apiece.
Pacific scored the game-winner just 19 minutes and 53 seconds into the match as Angelica Figueroa dumped the ball off to Maricela Padilla, who made a quick turn at the 18-yard line before lobbing a shot that slipped through 49er goalkeeper Nicoline Jorgensen's hands.
One of Long Beach State's best chances to even the score came at the 68:08 mark when Gordon took a corner kick that was curving in to the near post, but the attempt was swatted out by Jill Medigovich, who finished the afternoon with six saves for the Tigers.
Pacific tallied seven shots with four on target and was led by Padilla's three attempts.
Long Beach State returns to George Allen Field on Sunday, Oct. 4, when it continues Big West Conference action against UC Davis. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. PT.
