
49ers Complete Day One At Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational

Colorado Springs, Colo. - A new era began today for Long Beach State men's golf and new head coach Bill Poutre as the 49ers opened up the fall season at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The 49ers completed day one in 14th place with a score of 604. LBSU shot an opening round of 307 on Saturday morning at the Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course and came back in the second round to improve by 10 shots to finish with a 297. Colorado State and UNLV are tied for first place with a 560.
Individually for the 49ers, newcomers Kevin Roy, Kevin Lim and Austin Love made their first collegiate tournament debut. Roy was the top player for The Beach as he finished tied for 46th and shot a 149 (76-73). Lim and Love are both tied in 68th with a 153. Ricky Montanez is one shot back. Sophomore Ricky Montanez finished tied in 54th and Michael Drake is tied for 78th. Bryce Hanstad of Colorado State is on top of the leader board with a 138 (70-68).
"We didn't execute our shots well today," said Poutre. "We had three freshman playing in their first college event and we'll continue to improve."
Final round action concludes tomorrow at 7:15 a.m. Pacific time.
