Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State's women's basketball team, staff and families headlined a large group for 49ers in participating in this year's Orange County Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure. The Beach was part of nearly 26,000 participants in the 5K course, raising nearly $2.8 million dollars towards breast cancer research.
The Orange County Race For The Cure is the largest such event in California, and the entire women's basketball team and staff participated in the 5K event this past weekend. Travelling down to Newport Beach, the 49ers joined in the self-timed race to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
The 49ers also participate yearly in "Think Pink" day, a WBCA-driven initiative with the same goals as the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure. Last year, the 49ers game against Pacific was the highest-attended contest of the season, with half of the proceeds being donated to charity.
