PHILADELPHIA-- Former Long Beach State starter Andrew Carpenter made a brief appearance for the Phillies, pitching a scoreless inning against the Mets on August 27, before being sent back to Double-A Reading. Carpenter is the fourth Dirtbag this season to get their first Big League call up and 13th player overall to play in the Majors this year.
Carpenter, a second round pick in 2006, bounced around three levels this season after winning 17 games a year ago in Single-A Clearwater. He struggled in Double-A to start, going 2-7 with a 6.94 ERA over 11 starts. He then went 3-3 with a 2.92 ERA in Single-A, before getting the call back to Reading, where he went 4-1 with a 3.44 ERA before getting the Big League call up.
Overall, Carpenter made 52 appearances in the minors, mostly as a starter, before getting the call to the Majors.
Carpenter is the 33rd player LBSU overall to play in the Major Leagues.
