Long Beach, Calif. - Former 49er volleyball stars Danielle Scott-Arruda and Tayyiba Haneef-Park were part of the 12 players who will represent Team USA at the 2008 Olympic Games as announced by USA head coach Lang Ping.
At age 35, middle blocker, Scott-Arruda has been selected to her fourth Olympic Games roster, tying a record shard with Tara Cross-Battle, another former Long Beach State player. She originally made the Olympic roster for the 1996 Games in Atlanta.
"I am overly elated to be selected to my fourth Olympic Games," said Scott-Arruda in a release from USA Volleyball. "It was an emotional moment for all of us, though, to be selected."
Making her second Olympic trip is Haneef-Park, who was also chosen for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. A middle blocker at Long Beach State, she has moved to the left side to play Opposite during international competition.
With two former players on the team, Long Beach State ties Stanford for the second-most players on the team. Hawai'i leads the way with three former players.
Along with Scott-Arruda and Haneef-Park, 49er volleyball has one other alumnae competing for the U.S. in Beijing, as Misty May-Treanor will look to defend her 2004 Gold Medal in Beach Volleyball with teammate Kerri Walsh.
