Long Beach, Calif. - Joining an elite list of beach volleyball players, former 49er star Misty May-Treanor earned her 100th career tournament victory, teaming with Kerri Walsh to win the AVP Crocs Slam Chicago Open. With the win, May-Treanor becomes the fifth beach volleyball player to win 100 tournaments and the first woman.
The win was the 90th in a row for the tandem of Walsh and May-Treanor, who have made excellence in the sand their trademark. The 2004 Olympic champions in Athens, the pair returns to international competition in a few weeks as they look to defend their Gold medals in Beijing.
""Everybody kept saying 100 [wins], so I guess I knew it was 100," said May-Treanor. "But it's a team sport, so I look more at the team success. The individual stuff is great, but I would never have gotten here if it wasn't for (former partner) Holly (McPeak) and Kerri."
Along with May-Treanor, a number of former LBSU players have made their name on the AVP tour, most notably Brittney Hochevar and Jenn Snyder.
