Long Beach, Calif. - Middle Blocker Alexis Crimes earned tournament honors after leading team USA to a fifth place finish at the Pan American Cup in Mexico. Crimes, who played last season for Long Beach State, started for the Americans in the FIVB event.
In her first senior event with Team USA, Crimes was an offensive star for the Americans, who used a younger roster to scout players for the remaining spots on the Olympic roster for Beijing. The middle blocker finished with 73 kills on 127 attempts, hitting over .500 for the tournament. With a 57.48 kill percentage, Crimes was named the Best Spiker, given to the player with the highest kill percentage in the 12-team tournament.
Overall, team USA qualified for the 2009 FIVB World Grand Prix, finishing as one of the top three NORCECA teams with the current roster of rising stars with limited playing experience. Crimes, along with former Florida setter Angie McGinnis were both individually honored at the tournament as well as starting for most of the matches.
