Ciarelli Earns Field Athlete Of The Week Honors

Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Katelyn Ciarelli was named the Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 30. Ciarelli becomes the second 49er honored with that award, joining two-time winner Alex Shaw.
Participating at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Ciarelli turned in her best effort yet in the discus, throwing 171'5" for the top collegiate mark in the event. The mark was a lifetime best for Ciarelli by over two feet, solidifying her hold on third place on the all-time marks for Long Beach State. Ciarelli's throw also continues to increase her distance over the rest of the competition in the Big West, where she holds the top mark of the year.
The 49ers will face off in a small preview of the conference meet this weekend, as six Big West Schools are participating in the Steve Scott Invitational at Irvine this weekend. The two-day event begins on Saturday, May 3.
