IRVINE, Calif. - Seven Long Beach State student-athletes were named to the 2007-08 Big West Academic All-Conference Team for Winter Sports. Six 49er women's basketball players were honored, as was one men's basketball player.
On the women's side, Courtney Jacob, Kaiti O'Brien, Lakin Suacedo, Lauren Sims, Brett Timmons and Ally Wade made the squad. On the men's side, sophomore Chris Peys earned a spot on the team.
The six women's selections were the most of any Big West squad. UC Irvine and UC Davis were next with three players.
The Big West Conference honors outstanding student-athletes each year. They divide the awards into seasons, fall, winter and spring. The winter sports represented were men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
