Santa Barbara, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's golf team completed OGIO-Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in eighth place as the 49ers shot a 297 in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 900 on Tuesday morning at the San Marcos Golf Course. Fellow Big West Conference member Cal State Northridge (855) won the team championship by 20-shots as Cal Poly and Boise State (875) both tied for second.

Michael Drake was the top individual for LBSU as he shot another three-over 74 in the final round to finish tied for 21st place. Drake carded a 74 in both the first and second rounds on Monday. This was the third consecutive tournament and sixth overall, that Drake has led the 49ers this season.

Aaron Slonim finished with a three-day total of 226 (80-76-70) to tie for 37th place, Issei Suenaga finished in 45th, two-shots behind with a 228 (78-76-74), Karl Katnik (79-72-79--230) tied for 52nd, followed by Ricky Montanez (74-77-80--231) tied for 55th. Jeremy Keller, playing as an individual, tied for 55th as he shot a five-over 76 for a total of 231. Troy Merritt of Boise State claimed the individual title by eight shots, with a 14-under 199 (66-68-65).

"We had it going again today, but then Karl made a 10 on his 9th hole and we made a few other mistakes and that cost us at least two spots in the field," said LBSU Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "Each player has some positive things to take from each tournament, we just haven't been able to put everything together at the same time. We get the rest of the week off for Spring Break, then have a week to practice, a week for qualifying and then Conference, which has been our target all year. With Northridge winning this event, it proves that every single team in the Big West has the potential to play well or win an event, so we're upbeat."

The OGIO-Pacific Coast Intercollegiate was the last regular-season tournament for LBSU. The 49ers will next be in action as they prepare for the Big West Conference Championships on Apr. 21-22, at the Tijeras Creek Golf Course in Rancho Santa Margarita.
