Beach In 12th Place At Spartan Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Long Beach State women's golf team finished the first day of competition in 12th place at the Spartan Invitational on Monday afternoon. The 49ers shot an opening round of 311to finish tied for 8th at the Alamaden Country Club. Later in the day, The Beach shot a 320 in round two as they fell to 12th. Host San Jose State (596) is in first place after two rounds as the Spartans carry a two-shot lead over second place California (598).
Individually for The Beach, Lindsey McAtee and Reina Rogers continue their strong performances this year as McAtee (77-79) tied for 32nd, as she scored a 156 and Rogers (79-78) tied for 35th, as she's one stroke back. Katy Barrett (76-82) completed the day tied for 41st, followed by Kylie Kimura (79-81) tied for 49th and Kira Murashige (90-88) in 73rd. Selanee Henderson (143) of UC Irvine is the overall leader as she had a slim one-shot lead over Pia Halbig (144) of California.
"Once again, putting seemed to be the big issue," said 49er Head Coach Sue Ewart. "Hopefully tomorrow we can get a few more putts to drop and improve our standings. All are healthy with the exception of some very sore feet."
Final round action concludes on Tuesday.
