49ers Roll Past UC Davis In Three

Long Beach, Calif. - Four players tallied double figures in kills, led by All-American Alexis Crimes' 13, as Long Beach State rolled to a 30-16, 30-12, 30-23 win over visiting UC Davis on Friday evening at the Walter Pyramid. The Beach improved to 19-6 overall and 12-2 in the Big West Conference while the Aggies fell to 3-23 and 0-14 in league play.
Long Beach hit an impressive .409 for the match and limited the Aggies to a .109 hitting percentage. Crimes hit .458 (13-2-24) in the match, committing just two hitting errors. Freshman Ashley Lee added 12 kills and seven digs, Michaela Hasalikova had 10 kills and Quincy Verdin added 10 kills as well. Setter Nicole Vargas registered a double-double on the evening with 38 assists and a team-high 15 digs.
Long Beach took control early in games one and two. In game one, the 49ers led 17-10 and then used a 7-0 run to push the advantage to 24-10. The 49ers won game one 30-16 after hitting .400 (19-3-40). Verdin tallied six of her 10 kills in game one and the 49ers defensively came up with 21 digs. Game two saw the 49ers cruise to a 30-12 victory. Crimes had seven kills in the game as the 49ers hit a blistering .588 (23-3-34).
Game three was a bit closer as the Aggies hung tough.The 49ers led just 27-23 before closing out the game on a Hasalikova kill and two Aggie hitting errors.
Kayla Varney led the Aggies with 11 kills and seven digs while Renee Ibekwe added seven kills.
The 49ers will be in action on Saturday, November 10 when they host the University of the Pacific at 7 pm in the Walter Pyramid.
