Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Chris Richardson was named this week's track and field athlete of the week as announced by the Big West office. The first conference honoree on the season, Richardson was honored for his finish in the javelin to earn the field half of the award for the men.
Competing at the Ben Brown Invitational on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, Richardson took first place in the javelin throw with a mark of 220'10", a lifetime best for the senior. That mark also easily passed the qualifying standards for both the Big West Championships as well as the NCAA Regionals.
Richardson took first place in the event by over thirty feet and moved into second place in the Long Beach State top-10 record list in the javelin.
With the exception of Brent Gray, the 49ers have the week off from competition. Gray will compete tomorrow at the NCAA Indoor Championship in Fayetteville, Ark. The rest of the 49ers will wait for their next chance during outdoor season at the USC Invitational next weekend.
