·Look For Sweep Of Aggies
Long Beach State is 4-16 on the season and 1-7 in the Big West Conference. The 49ers lost at home to CS Fullerton on Thursday evening, 91-75, and then fell to UC Irvine 70-48 on Saturday night. The 49ers have lost five games in a row. UC Davis is 8-13 overall and 2-6 in the Big West. In its lone game last week the Aggies lost at home to Pacific, 72-67. Pacific is 15-6 overall and 6-2 in the Big West. The Tigers lost at home to Cal Poly on Monday night, 69-64, and won at UC Davis on Saturday evening.

·Career Record Of 174-139 In 10 Years
Dan Monson (Idaho `85) is 4-16 (.200) in his first season as the head coach at Long Beach State. Monson has compiled a 174-139 (.556) record his 11th year as a Division I head coach. He was 52-17 (.754) in two years at Gonzaga, leading the Bulldogs to the Elite Eight in 1999. In eight years at Minnesota he compiled a 118-106 (.527) mark with five post-season appearances.

The 49ers lead their series with Pacific by a 48-33 margin. The Tigers defeated the 49ers 83-77 on January 10 in the Walter Pyramid. The 49ers won both meetings from the Tigers last season, winning 92-64 at home and 82-76 in Stockton. The 49ers lead their series with UC Davis, 7-1. The 49ers downed the Aggies 71-53 on January 12 at home. The 49ers have won the past six meetings with Davis.

·Beach On The Road For Contest
This afternoon the 49ers will find out their opponent in the 2008 O'Reilly Auto Parts ESPNU BracketBuster game. In 2006 the 49ers traveled to Riverdale, NY to take on Manhattan College, winning that game 108-94. Last year the 49ers hosted Hawai'i in the Walter Pyramid and fell 93-78. All nine Big West teams are involved this season. Whomever the 49ers opponent will be in the February 23rd contest, that squad will return a game to Long Beach State during the 2008-09 season.

On January 25 junior Artis Gant and redshirt freshman Darnell Porter were dismissed from the team. Both were dismissed from the team by Head Coach Dan Monson, "due to attitude's detrimental to the team".

·Morris Scores 31 Points
Donovan Morris scored 31 points and Maurice Clady had a career-high 13, but the 49ers fell to CS Fullerton on Thursday evening 91-75. Arturas Lazdauskas had a strong outing with eight points, 10 rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes. The 49ers had 21 assists and 17 turnovers and were 10-21 (.476) from three-point range. The 49ers led 31-24 with 6:33 left in the opening half, but the Titans rang up 25 points in the final six-plus minutes to take a 49-43 halftime lead. Josh Akognon and Frank Robinson both had 18 points for the Titans.

·49ers Just 3-18 From 3-Point Range
Darren Fells had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead UC Irvine to a 70-48 win over Long Beach State on Saturday at the Walter Pyramid. Donovan Morris led the 49ers with 20 points, but the 49ers shot just .349 (15-43) from the field for the game and were 3-18 (.167) from three-point range. Maurice Clady had a team-high five assists and Brian Freeman added eight points. UCI out-rebounded the 49ers 33-to-21 and shot .531 (26-49) from the field.

·Tigers 15-6 On Year
Pacific stands at 15-6 overall and 6-2 in the Big West. Last week the Tigers lost at home to Cal Poly (69-64) and then won at UC Davis (72-67). In the win over the Aggies, Steffan Johnson led Pacific with 16 points while Anthony Brown added 12. The Tigers shot .531 (26-49) from the field for the game. On the season the Tigers are averaging 72.9 points per game and are shooting .494 from the field. Opponents are averaging 67.5 points and are shooting .423. Johnson is UOP's leading scorer at 15.7 points per game. Chad Troyer checks in at 12.3 points per outing and Brown averages 11.0 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game. Troyer (53-127) and Johnson (46-102) are the Tigers potent 1-2 punch from three-point range.
FIRST MEETING WITH TIGERS
·Pacific Prevailed 83-77
Pacific won the first game between the two schools 83-77 on January 10 in the Walter Pyramid. All five Tigers starters scored in double figures, led by 19 points from Steffan Johnson. Donovan Morris led the 49ers with a career-high 32 points. Darnell Porter added 15. The 49ers shot .531 (26-49) from the field for the game and were 8-19 from three-point range. The Tigers out-rebounded LBSU 33-to-27. Anthony Brown had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Long Beach led 40-36 at the 17:35 mark, but Pacific went on an 18-0 run to grab a 54-40 lead at 11:25. The Tigers hit seven of eight free throws in the final 20 seconds to secure the win.

The Aggies of UC Davis are 8-13 overall and 2-6 in the Big West. Saturday they fell at home to Pacific, 72-67. Four players hit double digits, led by 17 from David Carter and 14 from Mark Payne. Vince Oliver leads the team in scoring this season at 13.3 points per game. Shane Hanson averages 10.6 points per outing and is the Aggies top long-range threat at .396 (42-106). As a team UC Davis is averaging 63.0 points per game and shooting .439 from the field. Opponents are averaging 68.8 points and shooting .479.

The 49ers played one of their best all-around games when they downed UC Davis 71-53 on January 12 in Long Beach. Donovan Morris had 20 points and Greg Plater 18 s the 49ers shot .540 (27-50) from the field for the game in the win. Long Beach out-rebounded the Aggies 31-to-20 and were 8-18 (.444) from three-point range. Plater and Cornel Williams each hit three three's. Brandon Johnson had a strong game off the bench finishing with a career-high 14 points, adding five rebounds. The 49ers limited the Aggies to a .357 (15-42) field goal percentage for the game. David Carter led UC Davis with 15 points and Vince Oliver added 13. The 49ers led 34-24 at the half and quickly pushed the advantage to 54-35 with 11:32 remaining.

·21 Assists vs. CS Fullerton
The 49ers had a season-best 21 assists in Thursday's game vs. CS Fullerton. Maurice Clady and Arturas Lazdauskas both recorded five assists. The 49ers also hit 10 three-pointers in the game (10-21, .476), tying a season-high which they previously set on December 28 at California.

·Morris Leads Big West In Minutes
Junior Donovan Morris has been an "Iron Man" for the 49ers this season. He leads the team, and the Big West Conference, averaging 37.8 minutes played per game. He played all 45 minutes in the 49ers overtime game at Pepperdine and at Hawai'i, at UCSB, at UC Riverside and at home against CS Fullerton and UC Irvine this past week he played all 40 minutes. All-together, he has been on the court for 755 of the 49ers 815 minutes of action this season (.926).

·Season-Best .917 at Hawai'i
The 49ers are shooting .731 at the free throw line this season, a mark which ranks third in the Big West Conference. Long Beach shot a season-best .917 (11-12) at Hawai'i. The 49ers have shot .800 or better at the line seven times this season. In the nine home contests this season the 49ers are shooting .755 (123-163) at the line. Individually, Donovan Morris is shooting .826 at the free throw line this season to lead the 49ers.

Individually, Donovan Morris is first in minutes played (37.75), third in scoring (19.8), fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.448), sixth in field goal percentage (.494), seventh in free throw percentage (.826), seventh in 3-pointers made per game (2.15), seventh in defensive rebounds (3.95) and 15th in rebounding (5.1). In Big West only games he is first in the conference in scoring at 22.6 points per game, while being ranked in several other categories.
Donovan Morris
·Two 30-Plus Point Games This Season
Despite being double-teamed, pushed and proded, junior guard Donovan Morris continues to put up outstanding offensive numbers for the 49ers this season. He leads the squad in scoring at 19.8 points per game (22.6 ppg in Big West outings), having hit double digits in 19 consecutive contests. Morris also is the 49ers leading rebounder at 5.1 boards per game. Thursday against CS Fullerton he scores 31 points, his second-best output of the season, adding five rebounds and three assists. Saturday against UC Irvine he was the lone 49er in double digits with 20 points. On January 10 against Pacific he scored a career-high 32 points, hitting 10-of-15 shots from the field. He tallied a team-high 20 points in the win over UC Davis and was honored by being named the Big West Player of the Week (Jan. 14), his second league honor of the season. He has 11 games with 20 or more points this year, including six of the past seven games. Over his past seven games he is averaging 24.9 points per game. Morris was named the Big West Player of the Week on December 24 after he recorded a then-career-high 26 points in the 49ers 71-68 win over San Francisco. Morris is shooting .494 overall from the field, .448 (43-96) from three-point range and .826 (100-121) at the free throw line.
Arturas Lazdauskas
·Career-High 10 Points at UCR
Sophomore Arturas Lazdauskas continues to impress lately for the 49ers. Thursday he earned his first start as a 49er against CS Fullerton and finished with eight points, a career-high 10 rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes of action. Saturday against UCI he had four points and three offensive rebounds. Lazdauskas scored a career-high 10 points at UC Riverside on January 19. He played a then personal-best 19 minutes, adding four rebounds and a steal. Lazdauskas' previous high in scoring was four points at California. On January 23 vs. CS Bakersfield he had eight points and eight rebounds in 20 minutes. Lazdauskas is averaging 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game this season and is shooting .576 (19-33) from the field. He has a total of 38 rebounds this season and 16 of those are offensive. In his last five games he is averaging 6.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He has scored 47 points and grabbed 38 rebounds this season overall, but in the past five games he's scored 32 of his 47 points and grabbed 26 of his 38 rebounds.
Cornel Williams
·Career-High 17 Points at UCSB
Junior Cornel Williams has been putting up solid numbers this season for the 49ers. Thursday vs. CS Fullerton he had eight points, five rebounds and three assists. He hit double digits in scoring in five of his last eight games, including a career-high 17 points at UC Santa Barbara (1/3). He's averaging 8.4 points per game in Big West outings, second on the team behind Donovan Morris' 22.6 ppg, and is shooting .462 (12-26) from three-point range. Overall this season he's averaging 7.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. He grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in the game against Bucknell and against Washington he had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. He has hit double digits in scoring a total of six times this season.
Brice Gallow GOES FOR CAREER-HIGH
·17 Points at CS Northridge
Junior Brice Gallow has played well for the 49ers. He had started six games in a row before not starting on Saturday vs. UC Irvine. He sprained his left ankle on Thursday vs. CS Fullerton, but did play six minutes on Saturday against the Anteaters. At CS Northridge (1/26) he had a career-high 17 points, adding five rebounds and two assists. Against CS Bakersfield (1/23) he had 10 points, five rebounds and two assists. Gallow's previous high was an eight-point outing at UCSB on January 3. Gallow is currently averaging 3.1 points per game this year in 15 contests. In league games he's averaging 4.4 points per outing.
Brandon Johnson
·14 Points In First Meeting vs. UC Davis
Junior Brandon Johnson had a strong outing in the win over UC Davis on January 12. Johnson, whose previous high in points this season was nine (vs. Washington and Montana State), scored a career-high 14 points off the bench while grabbing five rebounds in 17 minutes. Johnson was 6-of-8 from the field and hit both of his free throw attempts. At CS Northridge (1/26) he finished with seven points and Thursday vs. CS Fullerton he had four points and a career-high tying three assists and Saturday vs. UCI he had seven points and three boards. On the year he is averaging 4.8 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. He is one of two players on the team with more assists (16) than turnovers (13). In his last three outings he is averaging 6.0 points per game.
Brian Freeman
·Five Double Figure Games This Year
Junior Brian Freeman checks in at 6.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting .539 (48-89) from the field. Saturday against UC Irvine he had eight points and six rebounds in 22 minutes. Freeman has hit double digits in scoring five times this season, including a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds in the home win over Loyola Marymount. Freeman hit double digits in four consecutive games at the beginning of the season (12 at Pepperdine, 10 at Washington, 11 at St. Louis, 17 vs. LMU), but hasn't hit that mark since December 5. Against CS Bakersfield (1/23) he had seven points, four rebounds and three assists. Freeman is second on the team with 45 assists this season and also is the team leader with 19 blocked shots. He had a season-high five blocks at UCSB.
Greg Plater
·18 Points In Win Over UC Davis
Freshman Greg Plater came up big in the win over UC Davis (1/12) scoring 18 points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists. Plater was 7-of-10 from the field and hit three of his five three-pointers. Plater is averaging 6.7 points per game this season and is second on the team in three-pointers made with 23 (23-72, .319). Last Thursday vs. CS Fullerton he had seven points and Saturday against UCI he had six points and two assists. Plater tallied 15 points at California and followed that up with 13 points against Bucknell. Plater has hit double digits five times this season, with his career-high of 21 points coming on November 21 at Pepperdine. Since his effort against the Aggies from three-point range, Plater has struggle recently hitting just 2-of-14 (.143) of his three's in the past five games.
Maurice Clady
·Career-High 13 Points vs. CS Fullerton
Junior Maurice Clady came off the bench vs. CS Fullerton and scored a career-high 13 points, adding five assists in 30 minutes. He was a perfect 3-3 from three-point range in the game. Saturday against UC Irvine he played 35 minutes and dished out five assists, giving him 10 assists in his last two games. Clady had a strong showing against Pacific on January 10, finishing with eight points and four assists in 28 minutes. On the year he is averaging 3.5 points per game and he's third on the team with 42 assists. In Big West games he averaging 4.6 points and 3.3 assists per game. Against Loyola Marymount he finished with 10 points and a career-best seven assists. Clady is shooting 13-26 from three-point range this season.
Lauren Heard
·6 Points at CS Northridge
Freshman Lauren Heard was going to redshirt this season, but decided to forgo his redshirt to help the 49ers out. On January 26 at CS Northridge, in his first game as a 49er, he had six points in 20 minutes of action. Thursday against CS Fullerton he played four minutes, but did not score, and Saturday vs. UC Irvine he played four minutes. Heard was an All-Moore League selection last season at Jordan High School in Long Beach.
