Senior Alexis Crimes was named Honorable Mention All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, wrapping up a tremendous season for the middle blocker. The award marks the fourth straight year that Crimes has been honored nationally.
"It has been an absolute pleasure to coach Alexis these past four years," said head coach Brian Gimmillaro. "It is a remarkable feat to be named an All-American four times, and she is a better person than a player. We wish her nothing but the best in her future."
Crimes, a four time First Team All-Big West selection, led the 49ers in kills, hitting percentage and blocking while ranking in the conference's top five in each of those categories. She averaged 4.48 kills per game, made 151 total blocks and was fifth on the team in digs.
For her career, Crimes helped lead the 49ers to four straight NCAA tournaments, extending Long Beach State's consecutive postseason mark to 21 straight years. She ranks third in career kills with 1,756, is fifth in hitting percentage at .377 and was just six blocks behind Danielle Scott for the most total blocks in program history. Additionally, she tops the block assists list for Long Beach State with 494.
This year marks the fourth straight AVCA All-American selection for the senior. As a freshman, the Region Player of the Year was named to the third team, and has been an Honorable Mention pick for the last three seasons.
Outside of Long Beach State volleyball, Crimes was named to the first-team Academic All-District squad, and has been chosen to compete for a spot on the USA National Team, accepting an invitation-only offer for the tryouts from January 7-12, 2008.
