LONG BEACH-- Season tickets for the 2008 Long Beach State Baseball season are now on sale featuring nine teams in the nation's top-40 and four teams in last year's College World Series, including Rice (February 22-24), UC Irvine (April 11-13), CS Fullerton (May 23-25) and two-time defending National Champion, Oregon State (May 19).
MINI PLANS ARE ALSO ON SALE for seven specific Friday, Saturday or Sunday games. Those mini plans run for $49 each and can be purchased by calling (562) 985-4949. Weekend series include: CS Fullerton, UCLA, Wichita State, Rice, and UC Irvine, among others.
Tickets can be obtained by calling (562) 985-4949 or purchased online at www.longbeachstate.com Super Boxes start at $275, while box seats are $165. Grandstands cost $100 per ticket for the 30-game schedule.
Loaded with the one of the toughest schedules in the nation, year in and year out, this year's docket features 11 teams ranked in the pre-season top-40, headlined by the Owls, who open the season at Blair Field beginning with the uniform start date on February 22. No. 7-ranked San Diego then comes to town on February 26, before No. 9-ranked Wichita State enters the friendly confines February 29-March 2. Also receiving pre-season consideration are three Big West teams, No. 16 CS Fullerton, No. 26 UC Irvine and No. 35 UC Riverside, while UCLA (No. 18), Oregon State (No. 19), Fresno State (No. 21), Pepperdine (No. 29) and California (No. 39) are also on the schedule.
Blair Field will also be a showcase for the nation's top players, including pre-season All-Americans: SS Danny Espinosa (LBSU), SS Brandon Crawford (UCLA), pitchers AJ Griffin, Brian Matusz and Josh Romanski (San Diego), RHP Scott Gorgen (UC Irvine), pitchers Ryan Berry and Cole St. Clair and OF Aaron Luna (Rice), RHP Aaron Shafer and 3B Connor Gillaspie (Wichita State) and RHPs Mike Stutes and Jorge Reyes (Oregon State). Many of those same players were coached by LBSU Head Coach Mike Weathers, who was the manager for Team USA this past summer.
Area teams will be available for the Southern California College Baseball Media Day on February 13 via the live webcast at the Walter Pyramid, while LBSU will host the annual Leadoff Weekend January 24-26, featuring the Leadoff Dinner, Golf Tournament and alumni game. Plans are in the works to bring back all 29 of the team's Big Leaguers during the team's alumni game on January 26.
