LONG BEACH, Calif. - Senior Donovan Morris has been named the Big West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after leading Long Beach State to a pair of wins last week.
Morris (San Bernardino, Calif./Cajon HS) averaged 27.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in wins at Idaho State and over New Mexico State. The 6-foot-3 guard made 13-of-28 shots (46.4 percent), 6-of-12 (50.0 percent) 3-pointers and 22-of-26 free throws (84.6 percent) in the two wins.
In an 88-82 double-overtime win over Idaho State on Tuesday, Morris scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the second overtime to push The Beach to its first road win of the season and its first back-to-back wins since the 2006-07 season.
In Sunday's 82-77 win over New Mexico State, Morris scored a season-high 30 points to help the 49ers avenge last season's 32-point loss at the hands of the Aggies. Morris' 30-point game was the fifth of his career.
Morris will lead Long Beach State into a pair of games this week. The 49ers host Pepperdine Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid and then travel to play San Francisco on Saturday.
