LONG BEACH - Long Beach State sophomore forward Kristen Kiefer has been named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week and the Soccer America Team of the Week. Kiefer, who also earned Big West Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday, recorded two goals and one assist in the 49ers' victories over UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
The Mission Viejo, Calif., native scored her seventh goal of the season against UCSB on Friday (Oct. 31) with just over a minute remaining in regulation. Her game-tying goal sent the match into extra periods and allowed The Beach to walk away with a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Gauchos.
Kiefer found the back of the net again two days later against Cal Poly on a breakaway in the 40th minute, giving the 49ers a 2-1 lead. She also set up Mariko Strickland on what proved to be the game-winner as LBSU defeated the Mustangs, 3-2.
Kiefer finished the regular season with eight goals and two assists, tying for second on the team in points (18) with Hayley Bolt and Kim Silos.
The 49ers, who claimed their third consecutive Big West Conference regular season title, received a No. 25 ranking in the latest NSCAA/adidas national poll released Tuesdsay, Nov. 4.
Long Beach State (13-4-3, 7-0-1 BWC) will host Pacific (10-7-1, 4-3-1 BWC) in a Big West Tournament semifinal match at George Allen Field on Thursday, Nov. 6. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (PST).
