
49ers Finish In 13th Place At Turtle Bay Intercollegiate

KAHUKU, OAHU, Hawaii - The Long Beach State men's golf team closed out the fall season finishing in 13th place at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Hawaii. The 49ers were in 11th place for the first two rounds but fell two spots with a 290 score in Wednesday's final round. LBSU shot a 290 and 292 to finish with a three-day total of an eight-over 872.
Texas claimed the team title with a 21-under 843 to finish with a three-shot lead over second place San Diego State (846) and third place UNLV and Texas-Arlington (850).
Freshman Kevin Roy, playing as an individual, recorded a season-best as he finished tied for third place as he fired a three-under 69 on Wednesday. Roy shot a two-under 70 in the first two rounds to finish with a tournament total of a seven-under 209, just four strokes behind individual champion Vaugh Snyder of Ohio State.
Junior Steve Gibson was the top player for The Beach for the second consecutive tournament as he finished tied for 14th as he came away with a final round score of a three-under 69. Gibson finished the tournament with a four-under 212 as he previously shot a 70 and 73 in the first and second rounds.
Fellow classman Michael Drake carded an even-72 as he tied for 18th. Drake shot a 72 in Tuesday's second round and a 69 on Monday for a total of a three-under 213.
Freshman Austin Love tied for 74th with a 224 (73-76-75), followed by sophomore Ricky Montanez as he tied for 85th with a 227 (81-72-74) and freshman Kevin Lim tied for 89th as recorded a 228 (78-75-75). Also, playing as an individual, sophomore Issei Suenaga tied for 93rd with a 229 (79-78-72).
