LONG BEACH, Calif. - San Diego's Jen Mello had the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute of play as USD got past Long Beach State 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.
All four losses for the 49ers (8-4-2) have been by a tally of 1-0. The 18th-ranked Toreros improved to 8-3-2.
Long Beach State started off slow offensively, taking only three shots in the first half. The 49ers came out in the second half more aggressively, taking eight shots, but failed to put one in the back of the net. Lindsay Bullock took four shots, while Kim Silos and Mariko Strickland each took two.
The Toreros took 13 shots at goal, with three coming in the second half. Goalkeeper Liz Ramos had eight saves for the day.
The 49ers played without Sahar Haghdan, who was out with a calf injury. Haghdan had a goal and assist last weekend helping give Long Beach a 2-0-0 record in league.
LBSU will resume conference play on Sunday as they take on UC Irvine (7-6-0) at George Allen Field at 2 p.m.
