Palm Desert, Calif. - Long Beach State finished in eighth place at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate as the 49ers accumulated a score of 301 in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 25-over 902. LBSU fell two spots in the standings as The Beach shot a 298 and a 303 on Saturday. Colorado State claimed the team title with an 877 as the Rams held a comfortable seven shot lead over second place Idaho (884).

Individually for the 49ers, junior Michael Drake was the top player for The Beach as he finished in a five-way tie for 14th place at the Desert Club in Palm Desert. Drake fired a three-over 75 on the final day for a total of 222.

Daniel Wax of Denver won the individual medalist on a playoff hole with Kevin Tucker of Washington State as both players finished the weekend with a three-under 213.

Junior transfer Steve Gibson finished second for LBSU as he moved up in the standings from 32nd to tie for 26th. Gibson came away in the final round with a two-over 74, as he previously shot a 79 and 73 in the first two rounds.

Sophomore Ricky Montanez shot a five-over 77 on the final day as he fell 10 spots to finish tied for 30th. Montanez carded a 75 in both rounds on Saturday for a total of 11-over 227.

Freshmen Kim Lim and Kevin Roy tied for 61st as both players finished with a tournament total of 18-over 234. Lim shot a six-over 78 in the final round, while Love recorded three-over 75.

The 49ers are off the next two weeks and will be back in action as they host the 13th Annual Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic on Thursday, Oct. 16 and Friday, Oct. 17. The Virginia Country Club in Long Beach will once again serve as host site for the 11th straight year. Admission to the Del Walker is free. For further information log onto www.thedelwalker.com
