IRVINE, Calif. - Donovan Morris has been picked as a first-team Preseason All-Big West selection in a vote of the league's media in Irvine on Wednesday.
Morris was the only player selected to the preseason all-league team that was a first-team all-league pick last year. The 49er guard earned the honor after leading the Big West in scoring averaging 21.2 points per game, while also leading the 49ers in rebounding with 5.2 per game. As a junior, Morris connected on 46.1 percent (202-of-438) of his shots, 41.7 percent (75-of-180) of his 3-pointers and 84.7 percent (177-of-209) of his free throws. He also finished second on the team in assists and ranked among the Big West Conference leaders in eight separate categories.
In a vote of the league's coaches and media, Long Beach State was picked to finish fifth by the media and eighth by the coaches. In the media poll the 49ers collected 96 points, while The Beach finished with 21 points in the coaches vote.
LBSU opens the season Nov. 14 at BYU, while opening the home season against Weber State on Nov. 22. Conference play begins on Jan. 2 when the 49ers host UC Santa Barbara.
