
49ers Finish In Third Place At Bill Cullum Invitational

Simi Valley, Calif. - Long Beach State shot a 291 in the final round of the Bill Cullum Invitational to finish in third place. The 49ers accumulated a total score of 857, to finish just four strokes behind tournament champion Cal State Northridge.
Sophomore Ricky Montanez was the top individual for LBSU as he tied for sixth place with fellow 49er Issei Suenaga, who was playing as an individual. Both players carded a 211 score for the tournament as Montanez shot a one-over 73 and Suenaga shot an even-72 in the final round.
T. Bierenbroodspot of Arizona State won the individual medalist by one stroke (206) over second place Erik Jarvey of Cal State Northridge.
Junior Steve Gibson improved by four shots on the final day as he recorded a one-under 71 to finish with a 213 as he tied for 12th.
Freshmen Austin Love and Kevin Lim both tied for 23rd with a four-over 220. Love shot an even-72 , while Lim carded a five-over 77. Junior Michael Drake tied for 39th with an eight-over 224, as he shot a three-over 75.
Also, playing as individuals, junior Aaron Slonim finished with a two-over 74 (231) as he tied for 57th, while freshmen Kevin Roy and Bobby Barajas both tied for 64th. Roy shot a 10-over 82 (235) and Barajas came in with a four-over 76 (235).
"This was our first final pairing, so it was nice to be in the final group," said 49er Head Coach Bill Poutre. "We didn't perform like I would of liked to, but it was a good experience for our guys being in the final group. We were outplayed today by Loyola Marymount as they played like veterans and we did not. We did outplay Northridge, but we didn't do enough. We're continuing to progress and getting better every week."
The 49ers are back in action as they travel to Kahuku, Hawai'I, for the Turtle Bay Invitational Nov. 10-12, hosted by the University of Hawai'i.
