Senior Day Ahead For Soccer

Long Beach, Calif. - The Long Beach State women's soccer team (10-4-3, 4-0-1) will play in its final home game of the regular season as they take on Cal State Northridge on Sunday at Noon.
The 49ers are coming off two victories over UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton this past weekend. A 4-1 win over the Highlanders and a 1-0 win over the Titans put Long Beach State in first place in the Big West Conference. LBSU has been the Big West co-champion in each of the last two seasons and is hoping it can keep its place at the top. The 49ers have a three-point lead over UC Santa Barbara and Pacific in the conference standings with two weeks remaining before the Big West tournament.
Coaches around the country are taking notice of the 49ers play, as Long Beach State continues to have a presence in the national polls. The Beach improved to No. 7 in the Western Region poll, and are currently receiving votes in the NSCAA Top 25, chosen by coaches around the nation.
Long Beach State is averaging 1.76 goals and 13.8 shots per game thanks to an offense led by Lindsay Bullock and Kim Silos. Bullock, who scored the game winning shot in Sunday's victory, leads the team with eight goals and 17 points. She is tied with UC Santa Barbara's Genelle Ives for most goals so far this season. Silos, who had a goal and an assist in Friday's victory, is second on the team in scoring with six goals and 15 points.
The 49ers also got some help from Sarah Strohl and Yeraldy Hurtado, both of whom scored their first goal of the season in Friday's win over UC Riverside. Caroline Shevlin picked up her first assist over the weekend.
Long Beach State leads the conference in shutouts thanks to Liz Ramos and Breanna Truelove. Ramos has seven shutouts, holding a 0.58 GAA and an .855 save percentage, which puts her at the top of the conference leaderboards.
LBSU owns a 5-4-1 record in the all-time series against Cal State Northridge. The Matadors are also coming off two victories over the weekend earning their 100th victory in the program's history.
Freshman Nancy Avesyan earned Big West Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week honors and leads the team with 11 points (four goals and three assists). Senior Kristal Phillips is second on the team with nine points, a result of two goals and a team-high of five assists.
Sophomore Leah Elliot had her second shutout of the season over the weekend. She currently has 86 saves with an .819 save percentage.
The 49ers are ranked No. 11 for the second week in a row in this week's Soccer Buzz regional rankings. Long Beach State seniors Truelove, Ramos, Sara Baca, Sahar Haghdan, Hayley Bolt, Silos, Mariko Strickland, Tiffany Vaught, Julie Megorden, Dana Farquhar and Cat Gray will be honored for "Senior Day" prior to the game.
