Long Beach State is 4-12 on the season and 1-4 in the Big West Conference. In its lone game last week the 49ers lost at UC Riverside on the road, 70-66. CS Bakersfield is 6-13 on the year after an 85-74 home loss to Utah Valley State on Saturday evening. CS Northridge is 13-3 overall and in first place in the Big West with a 5-0 mark. The Matadors, who won at UC Riverside last Wednesday 66-62, travel to Chicago State for a non-conference game on Tuesday before hosting the 49ers on Saturday in a FOX Prime Ticket television contest.

·Career Record Of 174-135 In 10 Years
Dan Monson (Idaho `85) is 4-12 (.250) in his first season as the head coach at Long Beach State. Monson has compiled a 174-135 (.563) record his 11th year as a Division I head coach. He was 52-17 (.754) in two years at Gonzaga, leading the Bulldogs to the Elite Eight in 1999. In eight years at Minnesota he compiled a 118-106 (.527) mark with five post-season appearances.

The 49ers lead their series with Cal State Bakersfield 2-0. The 49ers defeated the Roadrunners last season (11/17/06) in Long Beach 94-62. Long Beach leads its series with Cal State Northridge by a 25-17 margin. Last year the teams split their season series with the 49ers winning at home 79-72 and the Matadors winning in Northridge 90-83.
49ERS FALL AT RIVERSIDE
·Lazdauskas Scores Career-High
Donovan Morris tallied 19 points and Arturas Lazdauskas had a career-high 10 points, but the 49ers fell at UC Riverside on Saturday night 70-66. Long Beach led 62-55 with 4:21 left, only to see the Highlanders close out the game with a 15-4 run. Long Beach had a season-low eight turnovers in the game, but hit just three-of-14 three-pointers in the game. Long Beach was also out-rebounded by the Highlanders 32-to-25. Cornel Williams was the third 49er in double digits finishing with 12 points.

Cal State Bakersfield is 6-13 on the year after an 85-74 home loss to Utah Valley State on Saturday. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak. Guard Donavan Bragg led CSUB with 17 points and Alex Johnson added 15. On the year, junior Terrence Johns leads the Roadrunners at 13.9 points per game. He is shooting .348 (40-115) from three-point range. Zack Grasmick and Trent Blakley are second in scoring at 8.7 points per outing. CSUB is averaging 67.6 points per game and shooting .415 from the field. Opponents are averaging 74.3 points per game and are shooting .483. This is the first of five consecutive road games for the Roadrunners. Their next home game is on February 16 vs. the 49ers.
CS NORTHRIDGE FACTS
·Matadors in First Place in Big West at 5-0
Cal State Northridge stands in first place in the Big West with a perfect 5-0 mark, and 13-3 overall. The Matadors play at Chicago State on Tuesday before hosting the 49ers on Saturday. Last week CSUN won at UC Riverside, 66-62. Deon Tresvant led the way with 20 points, hitting six-of-11 three's, and Josh Jenkins added 14 points and six assists. The Matadors are averaging 79.2 points per game this year and are shooting .461 from the field and .378 (121-320) from three-point range. Tresvant is CSUN's leading scorer at 13.7 points per game. He is shooting .445 (49-110) from long-range this season. Jonathan Herd is averaging 12.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and Calvin Chitwood, who is injured, checks in at 11.9 points per outing. The Matadors have won six games in a row.
BIG WEST STATISTICS
·Beach 3rd in Free Throw Percentage
In the latest Big West Conference statistics the 49ers are third in the league in free throw shooting at .735, third in three-point field goal defense (.346), third in offensive rebounds (10.06) and fourth in field goal percentage defense (.442). Individually, Donovan Morris is 1st in minutes played (37.56), 3rd in scoring (18.3 ppg), 8th in free throw percentage (.810), 3rd in 3-point percentage (.457), 6th in defensive rebounds (4.00 rpg), 13th in rebounding (5.1 rpg), 7th in 3-pointers made (2.00 pg) and 6th in field goal percentage (.500). In conference only games he ranks second in scoring at 21.0 points per game and fifth in 3-point field goals made per game (2.40). Cornel Williams is first in the Big West in field goal percentage at .645 (20-31) in league outings and fourth in 3-point percentage at .579 (11-19).
STRONG SHOOTING AT HOME

In the last four outings at home the 49ers have shot over .500 from the field in each contest and have averaged 74.0 points per game. The 49ers have shot .530 (106-200) from the field overall in those four games and .444 (32-72) from 3-point range. The 49ers shot .531 (26-49) from the field against Pacific and followed that with a .540 (27-50) effort in the win over UC Davis. Their best field goal percentage game of the season came on December 18 vs. San Francisco as Long Beach shot .556 (25-45) from the field.
IRON MAN
·Morris Leads Big West In Minutes
Junior Donovan Morris has been an "Iron Man" for the 49ers this season. He leads the team, and the Big West Conference, averaging 37.6 minutes played per game. He played all 45 minutes in the 49ers overtime game at Pepperdine and at Hawai'i, at UCSB and at UC Riverside he played all 40 minutes. All-together, he has been on the court for 601 of the 49ers 650 minutes of action this season (.925).
FREE THROW SHOOTING
·Season-Best .917 at Hawai'i
The 49ers are shooting .735 at the free throw line this season, a mark which ranks third in the Big West Conference. Long Beach shot a season-best .917 (11-12) at Hawai'i. The 49ers have shot .800 or better at the line in five of its nine games. In its last nine outings the 49ers are shooting .764 (107-140) at the charity stripe. In the six home contests the 49ers are shooting .781 (82-105) at the line. Individually, Donovan Morris is shooting .820 (41-50) from the line in the past 11 games.
STRONG ALL-AROUND GAME
·Held UC Davis to 53 points
The 49ers had their best all-around game in the 71-53 win over UC Davis. Long Beach shot .540 from the field for the game, its second-best shooting performance of the year, and limited the Aggies to just 53 points, the second-lowest point total allowed this year (52 points to St. Louis and LMU). The 49ers also out-rebounded the Aggies 31-to-20, the seventh time this year the 49ers have out-rebounded an opponent.
MORRIS CONTINUES SCORING STREAK
·Career-High 32 Points vs. Pacific
Junior guard Donovan Morris continues to be the 49ers top scoring threat this season. He leads the squad in scoring at 18.3 points per game, having hit double digits in 15 consecutive contests. Morris also is the 49ers leading rebounder at 5.1 boards per game. On January 10 against Pacific he scored a career-high 32 points, hitting 10-of-15 shots from the field. He tallied a team-high 20 points in the win over UC Davis and was honored by being named the Big West Player of the Week (Jan. 14). Morris has seven games with 20 or more points this year. Morris was named the Big West Player of the Week on December 24 after he recorded a then-career-high 26 points in the 49ers 71-68 win over San Francisco. Morris is shooting .500 overall from the field, .457 (32-70) from three-point range and .810 (68-84) at the free throw line. Toss out his opening game vs. BYU (1-15 FG, 0-4 3-pt) and Morris is shooting .537 (95-177) overall and .485 (32-66) from three-point range.
GANT IS BACK
·Missed 8 Games Due to Injury
Junior Artis Gant was back on the floor in Saturday's game at UC Riverside, his first game since injuring his left knee against LMU on December 5. Gant played 24 minutes off the bench, finishing with seven points (7-11 FT's), four assists and two rebounds. The four assists ties his season-high. Gant, who is now averaging 8.1 points per game, was playing outstanding basketball before his injury. He has scored in double figures in three consecutive games (13 at Pepperdine, 15 at Washington, 10 at St. Louis), before playing just 15 minutes in the home win over LMU.
LAZDAUSKAS HAS BIG GAME
·Career-High 10 Points at UCR
Sophomore Arturas Lazdauskas scored a career-high 10 points in Saturday's game at UC Riverside. He also played a personal-best 19 minutes, adding four rebounds and a steal. Lazdauskas' previous high was four points this year at California and last year against Pacific and CS Fullerton. He was five-of-seven from the field and two of his four rebounds were on the offensive glass. Lazdauskas is averaging 2.3 points per game this season and is shooting .647 (11-17) from the field. He has a total of 16 rebounds this season and nine of those are offensive.
WILLIAMS CONTINUES TO IMPRESS
·Career-High 17 Points at UCSB
Junior Cornel Williams has been putting up solid numbers this season for the 49ers, but his numbers have increased significantly over the past five games. He has hit double digits in scoring in four of his last five games, including a career-high 17 points at UC Santa Barbara. Saturday at UC Riverside he had 12 points. Over the past five games he is averaging 11.4 points per game while shooting .645 (20-31) from the field and .579 (11-19) from 3-point range. In the Big West league-only statistics, Williams is first in the league in field goal percentage (.645) and fourth in 3-point percentage (.579). He's averaging 11.4 points per game in Big West outings, second on the team behind Donovan Morris' 21.0 ppg. Overall this season he's averaging 7.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in the game against Bucknell and against Washington he had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. He has hit double digits in scoring a total of five times this season.
JOHNSON GARNERS CAREER-HIGH
·14 Points vs. UC Davis
Junior Brandon Johnson had a strong outing in the win over UC Davis. Johnson, whose previous high in points this season was nine (vs. Washington and Montana State), scored a career-high 14 points off the bench while grabbing five rebounds in 17 minutes. Johnson was 6-of-8 from the field and hit both of his free throw attempts. Johnson had scored just nine points in his previous six games. On the year he is averaging 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. He is one of three players on the team with more assists (12) than turnovers (9).
PLATER PUTTING UP NUMBERS
·Double Digits in 4 of Last 7 Games
Freshman Greg Plater came up big in the win over UC Davis scoring 18 points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists. Plater was 7-of-10 from the field and hit three of his five three-pointers. Plater is averaging 7.1 points per game this season, but he has hit in double digits in four of the last seven games. Plater tallied 15 points at California and followed that up with 13 points against Bucknell. After not scoring at UCSB, he had 12 points off the bench at Cal Poly. Plater has hit double digits five times this season, with his career-high of 21 points coming on November 21 at Pepperdine. Plater is shooting .350 (21-60) from three-point range. The school-record for three-pointers made by a 49er freshman is 36, set by Jibril Hodges in the 2002-03 season.
CLADY SHINES VS. PACIFIC
·8 Points and 4 Assists vs. Tigers
Junior Maurice Clady had a strong showing against Pacific on January 10, finishing with eight points and four assists in 28 minutes. He also had just two turnovers. On the year he is averaging 3.6 points per game and has 32 assists to 31 turnovers. He is one of just three 49ers with more assists than turnovers. Clady had a big game in the home win over Loyola Marymount on December 5 finishing with a career-high 10 points and seven rebounds. Clady is shooting .435 (10-23) from three-point range and .833 (10-12) at the free throw line this season, having his hit last eight charity tosses.
