Four Players Earn All-League Honors for Their Summer Leagues

LONG BEACH---Four Long Beach State players were named all-league in various
collegiate summer leagues to highlight the Dirtbags in the summer of 2007.
Shane Peterson, a first team All-Big West selection last season, saw his
stock rise in the Cape Cod League, earning the starting nod in the All-Star
Game in July, before being named all-league at utility after leading the
Cape in hits (52), ranking fourth in average (.338) and fifth in on-base
percentage (.436). Peterson was rated as the No. 26 prospect out of the
Cape, according to Baseball America.
In nearby Newport, RI, lefthander Adam Wilks was named all-league in
the New England Collegiate League after leading the league in ERA (1.12),
while going 3-2 in eight starts with a .153 opponent batting average.
In the West Coast Collegiate League for Moses Lake OF Steve Tinoco earned
all-league honors after ranking third in the league in hitting (.331)
and fourth in overall hits (50), while also stealing 12 of 18 bases. OF
Zach Barger was named second team all-league in the Horizon League as
well, playing for the Barona Stars.
Two other pitchers ranked amongst league leaders in saves. Bryan Shaw
was fourth in the Cape in saves with seven over 17 games, while Dustin
Rasco was second in the Texas League with six saves over 12 games, producing
a 1.80 ERA.
Other solid summers came from David Roberts, who was 5-2 with a 2.32
ERA in 14 games and nine starts for Green Bay, while Jason Markovitz had
a 2.55 ERA over 10 games in the Northwoods League for Thunder Bay. Trevor
Johnson had a 1.69 ERA for Palm Springs in 15 relief appearances. Danny
Espinosa was the starting shortstop for Team USA as they won a Silver
Medal to Cuba at the Pan American Games for Manager and LBSU skipper,
Mike Weathers.
