49ers Open Season With Two Matches

No. 19 49ers To Open Season With Two Matches In The Gold Mine LONG BEACH, Calif. – In an early start to the 2007 season, women's volleyball begins this weekend as the 49ers face off against two ranked opponents on Friday and Saturday. First up for No. 19 Long Beach State is No. 15 San Diego, with play beginning at 7 p.m. Friday evening. Following that match, the team will play No. 2 Stanford Saturday evening at 7 p.m. as well. Both matches will be held in the Gold Mine. These two matches will provide an early test for a team that has some outstanding talent and will be trying to make an early impression. Senior Alexis Crimes returns after her third straight All-American season, and is joined by five other seniors, including first-team All-Big West selection Michaela Hasalikova. Spectators attending the San Diego and Stanford volleyball matches August 24th and August 25th are urged to exit the 405 freeway at Bellflower and enter campus on Beach Drive then proceed to second stop sign and turn left on Merriam Way. Parking staff will collect a $5.00 parking fee and direct traffic to park in Lot-3 and Lot-17. Fans can also park in Lot 13 or the parking garage outside of the Walter Pyramid and make the short walk to the gym from there. Handicapped & Director Circle attendees are encouraged to activate your vehicle flashers this will assist Parking Officers in identifying your vehicle and expedite arrival to reserved parking areas. Tickets will be available during the days preceding the matches at the Walter Pyramid, as well as on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Will Call as well as additional day of game sales will be held at the Gold Mine beginning at 5. In addition, fans are advised to come early to the match, with capacity for the Gold Mine resting at 1,800, less than the usual availability for women's volleyball. The remainder of the 2007 home schedule will be played in the Walter Pyramid. |
