Peterson Named a Cape All-Star Starter HYANNIS, MA-- Long Beach State first baseman Shane Peterson (Temecula) was named a starter for the West squad at the Cape Cod League All-Star Game on July 28. Peterson, a starter for the Hyannis Mets, is the current league leader in hits (39), and also ranks fourth in batting (.331), fifth in doubles (8) and third in triples (2). Peterson has scored 16 runs and has 17 RBIs, while slugging at a .458 clip. He earned first team All-Big West honors as a sophomore last season for the Dirtbags, who finished the year at 39-20. During the college season Peterson batted .327 with 40 runs and 40 RBIs. Peterson also had a 22-game hit streak and stole 11 bases. He is the second Dirtbag in three summers to be named an All-Star in the pretigious Cape Cod League. Evan Longoria, the third overall pick in the 2006 draft, was an All-Star for Chatham in the Summer of 2005. |
